During the protests in Belarus on August 22, 26 citizens were detained. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic announced this in its Telegram channel on August 23.

“Based on these facts, the territorial bodies of internal affairs have documented 18 violations of the legislation on mass events. A total of 26 citizens were detained on August 22 for committing administrative offenses, ”the message says.

The police clarified that over the past day, aggressive actions, including against employees of the internal affairs bodies, were not recorded during public and political mass events.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, over the past day, the number of participants in 67 protest actions in 55 settlements did not exceed 6.1 thousand people.

The message also provides data on the participants in the rallies “in support of peace, security and tranquility” – there were more than 30 thousand people.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus also reminded of the illegality of unauthorized mass events and the responsibility for participation in them.

Earlier, on August 22, it became known about the arrest of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, one of the coordinators of illegal street actions. According to the police, a resident of Minsk was looking for and financing new participants.

In Belarus, protests continue after the presidential elections on 9 August. According to the voting results, the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko won with 80.01% of the vote. People who did not agree with the results took to the streets of the republic’s cities. In clashes with law enforcement officers, there were victims from both sides.

On August 13, the Investigative Committee of Belarus asked the citizens of the country to help them find the coordinators of the actions of the participants in the riots.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Belarus Yuri Karaev previously claimed responsibility for the injuries of random people at the protests and apologized.
