The Russian Technological University (RTU MIREA) asks the Ministry of Industry and Trade to consolidate the role of industrial design as one of the driving forces for the development of innovations and the economy when forming a new Strategy for innovative development of the Russian Federation. This is stated in a letter signed by the rector of the university Stanislav Kuja, which was received by Izvestia on Thursday, March 4.
It is noted that this year the implementation of the Strategy for the Innovative Development of Russia is being completed, within the framework of which the situation in the field of innovations has been “seriously improved”.
“In this regard, and especially in the context of the current Year of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation, it seems necessary to update the Strategy for the Innovative Development of the Russian Federation for the next decade and provide measures to stimulate and support industrial design in it,” the letter to the Minister of Industry and Trade says. Denis Manturov.
MIREA points out that the adoption of the concept for the development of industrial design in Russia has been repeatedly postponed, and the concept of “industrial design” is not enshrined in the legislation. It is emphasized that training programs for specialists in this area are divorced from practice.
The letter speaks of foreign experience in the development of this area. For example, the “Korean industrial phenomenon” is directly related to the development of industrial design, enshrined at the legislative level.
“When updating the Strategy for Innovative Development of the Russian Federation, we ask you to take into account the following: to consolidate the role of industrial design in Russia as one of the driving forces of innovation and development of the economy as a whole,” the letter says.
The university asks to formulate the concept of “industrial design” at the legislative level, and designate the creation of a national style of this type of design as one of the objectives of the strategy. The creation of a recognizable national identity should help reduce the cost of industrial design for consumer goods in the future.
Among the proposed measures are an increase in the number of budget-funded places in universities for areas of training related to industrial design, the creation of a system of state support for medium-sized businesses in the industrial sector of the economy for the development of this type of design in cooperation with universities.
The proposed measures should be aimed at increasing the attractiveness of goods produced in Russia and their competitive advantages in the global market.
At the end of December last year, the Russians named the most promising activities in 2021. Among them are IT (44%), medicine (37%), construction (30%), industry (6%) and design (3%).
