Ukraine will not buy the Russian coronavirus vaccine, the US Embassy in Kiev said on its Facebook page.

In the message of the diplomatic mission, it is noted that the US Charge d’Affaires in Ukraine Christina Queen held a “constructive collegiate dinner” with the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health Maxim Stepanov, during which the situation with COVID-19 in the country and reforms in the Ukrainian healthcare sector were discussed.

“Ukraine will not buy the Russian vaccine against COVID-19, which has not passed clinical safety tests,” the embassy said after the meeting.

On October 9, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Alexander Kachura, called on Kiev to purchase the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus, since the state must first of all take care of the health of citizens.

Stepanov did not rule out the possibility of purchasing the drug, but later abandoned such an idea.

Opposition Ukrainian politicians have suggested that, be that as it may, Kiev will eventually purchase the Russian vaccine, but under the guise of a Western one.

According to blogger Anatoly Shariy, the Ukrainian authorities will receive the drug at greatly inflated prices, refusing direct supplies from Moscow in order to cash in on purchases.
