The court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan ruled to recognize the arrest of the leader of the Prosperous Armenia opposition party Gagik Tsarukyan unlawful. Earlier, he was detained by law enforcement officials on charges of organizing illegal rallies.
“The court found Tsarukyan’s detention unlawful,” said the opposition’s lawyer Yerem Sargsyan.
Residents of Yerevan went to protest actions immediately after the head of the country’s government Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement with Azerbaijan and Russia on a truce in Karabakh. The protesters began to demand that the prime minister resign.
On November 12, the Special Investigation Service of Armenia reported on the arrest of ten leaders of opposition parties.
