During the pandemic, deposits of Yamal residents showed a significant increase – residents of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug began to save more funds. As a result, Yamal became one of the leaders in Russia in terms of the size of bank deposits of the population and took fourth place in the rating. On April 26, RIA Novosti reported.
Analysts decided to find out how the size of bank deposits of Russians has changed over the year – the year was not easy, the “coronacrisis” affected people’s lives. It turned out that about 230 thousand rubles of deposits are accounted for by every Russian, while despite the coronavirus pandemic, and somewhere even thanks to it, in the past year, deposits of the population showed quite good growth in Russia. In 2020, individual deposits increased by 2.4 trillion rubles, or 8%.
Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug has become one of the regions of the country where deposits jumped during the pandemic. The volume of deposits per capita in Yamal amounted to 340.7 thousand rubles – these are the data as of March 1, 2021. This is one of the highest indicators in the Russian Federation, with it Yamal entered the top five and took fourth place in the rating.
During the year, people’s deposits in Yamal grew by 20.7% – this is also one of the most significant “leaps” in the country. The share of foreign currency deposits in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District was 5.2%.
“The significant increase in deposits in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is probably due to the pandemic. The incomes of the population in this region are quite high, and due to travel restrictions, including for recreation, the expenses of the local population decreased, which made it possible to form additional savings, ”analysts commented.
By the way, in 2020 Yamal entered the top five regions of the Russian Federation with the most economical residents.
At the end of the year, Muscovites had the largest volume of deposits – 967.7 thousand rubles per person. In second place in the ranking is St. Petersburg (488.4 thousand per capita), in third – Magadan region (365.3 thousand). Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug was also in the top five, taking the fifth place with a volume of deposits of 294 thousand per one inhabitant.
The least deposits per capita as of the last reporting date were in the Chechen Republic (11.8 thousand rubles per person). A similar very low result in the Republic of Ingushetia (12.2 thousand rubles per person). Here, the population does not have very high incomes, in addition, the low level of deposits can be explained by the weak development of the local banking market, experts say.
