Specialists from the South African University of the Witwatersrand during excavations in the caves of ancient people found the remains of fossilized grass bedding. It turned out to be the oldest primitive man’s bed in the world. Scientists have determined that they were arranged 200,000 years ago.
Interestingly, these beds were located in the warmest and safest places in the caves – near the hearths. There was a layer of ash under the grass, as archaeologists suggested, to protect against insects. In addition, camphor branches were discovered – this plant is still used in South Africa as an insecticide. That is, primitive man already knew how to get comfortable for the night.
The find pushed back the creation of the first beds of ancient people by almost 130,000 years, according to ScienceAlert.
