The World Health Organization (WHO) Committee on Emergencies has recommended that proof of vaccination should not be required as a condition of international travel. This was reported on April 19 by Reuters.
“States must recognize that requiring proof of vaccination exacerbates inequalities and promotes unequal freedom of movement,” the experts said in a statement.
A group of independent experts, in a statement released after the emergency committee meeting on Thursday, cited limited data on whether vaccination against COVID-19 affects people’s ability to transmit the virus.
In March, WHO said plans for the European Commission to introduce vaccination passports in the European Union raises serious concerns, as vaccination exacerbates inequality between people, since there are those who have been vaccinated and those who do not want to be vaccinated.
Earlier, in the same department, WHO announced the premature introduction of vaccination passports against COVID-19. Prior to that, on February 15, the organization noted that for such documents there is still not enough data on how vaccines affect the spread of COVID-19.
