The World Health Organization (WHO) called the information about the vaccine of the American company Moderna against COVID-19 encouraging. This was announced on Monday, November 16, by the chief researcher of the organization Sumya Swaminathan during a briefing.

“We recently read a press release that the new vaccine is more than 90 percent effective. Of course, we need to wait for the final data, but on the whole the information is encouraging, ”TASS quotes her.

However, according to Swaminathan, it will take some time for the vaccine to be approved by WHO. The representative of the organization indicated the need to analyze the data after the completion of the third phase of clinical trials, which will help to ensure that there are no side effects in the vaccinated.

Earlier that day, the American company Moderna announced the completion of the third phase of trials of the coronavirus vaccine (mRNA-1273) with an efficiency of 94.5%. Vaccine testing has been taking place since July 27, with approximately 30,000 volunteers taking part.

The first interim analysis was based on 95 cases of infection, of which 90 cases of COVID-19 were observed in the placebo group and only five cases in the mRNA-1273 vaccine group.

The mRNA-1273 vaccine was developed using a genetic platform called mRNA (messenger RNA). It directs the body’s cells to express a viral protein that scientists hope will trigger a strong immune response. The vaccine has been successfully tested on animals.
