Former judge of the Liskinsky District Court of the Voronezh Region, Yevgeny Kapustin, managed to escape punishment for a high-profile road accident that occurred in 2018. After the accident, the Toyota RAV4 car, which was driven by Kapustin, was burned so that the man would not be prosecuted.
The accident happened at the intersection of Solnechnaya and Domostroiteley streets in Liski. Witnesses asserted that the taxi driver was driving according to the rules, without breaking the speed limit. At the same time, the judge was driving at a speed of 100 km / h.
There were two pensioners in the taxi. Both, as well as the taxi driver, were hospitalized. The experts qualified the driver’s injuries as grievous bodily harm. A criminal case was opened. At the end of 2018, Kapustin resigned.
According to IA “Abireg”, the investigators conducted 15 forensic examinations, interrogated more than 50 witnesses, conducted other investigative and procedural actions aimed at establishing Kapustin’s guilt. But later, the ex-judge received a petition to dismiss the case due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, and on October 30, 2020, the investigator issued an appropriate order. The prosecutor’s office recognized it as legal and reasonable.
Ruslan Belokonev, an ex-traffic police officer from Liski, also escaped punishment. He was accused of destroying material evidence in an accident involving a judge. According to investigators, he burned the judges’ Toyota RAV4. But the court did not agree with this version. As a result, Belokonev was acquitted.
