The Lithuanian authorities categorically did not like the fact that nuclear fuel was loaded into the reactor of the recently built Belarusian nuclear power plant, Delfi news agency reported.
A protest note was sent to Minsk from Vilnius. It says that the construction of such a facility in the immediate vicinity of the capital of Lithuania poses a threat to the country’s national security. “We hope for a principled reaction from both the European Commission and the IAEA, because the stage of loading nuclear fuel means that the launch of the nuclear power plant is approaching. To implement the recommendations of nuclear safety and safety standards, active actions are needed on the part of the European Commission, first of all, those related to the implementation of recommendations for conducting stress tests, ”Energy Minister Zhigmantas Vaiciunas said at a press conference. Brussels is in no hurry to support the position of Vilnius, they do not see any particular danger in the construction and operation of the Belarusian NPP. Lithuania refused to buy electricity from Minsk and urges its neighbors to do the same. The authorities of Estonia and Latvia remain silent on this occasion.
