Two Boeing B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers of the U.S. Air Force flew near Crimea, PlaneRadar data show. American planes took off from a base in Britain, flew over Germany, Poland and Ukraine, after which they ended up close to Crimea.
The bombers were 53 km from the peninsula. The objectives of the flight of the Americans remain unknown.
Vadim Kozyulin, a professor at the Academy of Military Sciences, a military expert, suggested in a conversation with RIA Novosti that the Americans were trying to get information about the Russian air defense forces. The US military is looking at the reaction of the Russian military as part of working out their plans to strike at Russia.
Recall that on August 3, Russian MiG-31 fighters took off twice due to the appearance of aircraft from NATO countries.
