The United States intends to complete procedures to extend START until February 5, a State Department official said.

According to him, the START Treaty will be extended until the expiration date of the document on February 5.

“There are still steps to be completed. But we are optimistic that this extension is clearly in line with our national security interests, ”the State Department said.

Earlier, Russian and American presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden agreed on the extension of START-3 during a telephone conversation on January 26. The Treaty on Measures for Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic and Offensive Arms, signed by the Russian Federation and the United States in 2010, provides for the reduction of strategic offensive arms by both sides.
