Kiev believes that the European Union (EU) should tighten and expand the package of sanctions against Moscow. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal in an interview with the German edition of Handelsblatt.
Shmyhal noted that the sanctions are an effective lever of pressure, so they should be expanded.
“We believe that the sanctions (against Russia – Ed.) Should not only be continued. In the future, they should be precise, clear and, above all, tougher, ”Shmygal’s words are quoted on the website of the Ukrainian government.
Earlier on the same day, Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Head of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, told Izvestia that the approval by the EU Council of new sanctions against 11 people, including those from Russia, only worsens relations between the Russian Federation and the European Union, which already require a “reset “.
He expressed regret that the US example of using sanctions “for any reason and for no reason” is becoming contagious, as well as due to the fact that Europe has embarked on the path of sanctions, which, according to the senator, proved to be completely futile.
On March 17, sources reported that the permanent representatives of 27 EU member states completed the negotiation of new restrictive measures against individuals who are responsible, according to Brussels, for human rights violations.
