The current US President Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of pardoning his former adviser Stephen Bannon. On Friday, January 15, the Politico edition reports, citing sources.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, two more pardons are also expected before the end of Trump’s presidential term. One will happen on the evening of Friday, January 15 (morning of January 16, Moscow time), and another – on the morning of January 20, before the swearing-in of President-elect Joe Biden.
Bannon and three of his alleged accomplices are accused of embezzling some of the funds they raised as part of a private initiative to build a wall on the border with Mexico. Trump’s ex-adviser pleaded not guilty, the court agreed to release him on bail of $ 5 million.
Bannon served as Trump’s senior political and strategic advisor from January to August 2017. He was also one of the top personalities in Trump’s 2016 campaign. Bannon was arrested on August 20, 2020 in New York.
Trump has already pardoned a number of his former associates convicted as part of an investigation by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, including Michael Flynn, Roger Stone and Paul Manafort.
