Three self-nominated candidates who managed to be elected to the Novosibirsk City Council wrote applications to join the United Russia faction, which will allow it to form a majority in parliament, said Dmitry Asantsev, chairman of the sixth convocation of the City Council, re-elected for a new term.

Earlier, the first deputy secretary of the regional branch of United Russia, Andrei Panferov, spoke about negotiations with three self-nominated candidates, who won victories in single-mandate constituencies, regarding their possible joining United Russia.

23 people went to the city council from the party, three more are self-nominated, who have already written applications to join the faction. “Thus, we have a majority in the Council of Deputies of Novosibirsk of the new convocation,” Asantsev said.

In the previous composition there were 33 United Russia members, now there are 23 of them. But the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which is traditionally strong in Novosibirsk, has reduced its presence from 12 to 8 seats. The Liberal Democratic Party has strengthened its position, now it has not 2, but four seats. Representatives of Rodina and the Green Party each received one mandate.

Self-nominated candidates won in 14 districts. Five of them are members of the coalition 2020, which was formed by representatives of the opposition. In the past, the City Council had only two independent deputies.

260 candidates took part in the elections to the Novosibirsk City Council. The elections are held according to the majority system. Representatives of 11 parties took part in the elections.
