The head of the US State Department, Anthony Blinken, during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, said that Washington is firmly opposed to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

As noted in the press service of the State Department, the parties stressed the importance of “the transatlantic partnership in the face of the destabilizing activities of Russia, China and Iran.” Support for Ukraine was also discussed.

Meanwhile, the German Bundesgag commented on the information about the lawsuit filed by environmentalists against the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The representative of the parliament noted that in Berlin they see no reason to stop work on the project in the light of these recent events. According to the interlocutor of the agency, the lawsuit will not stop the laying of the gas pipeline. Among the possible risks, he named the slowdown in construction.

Prior to this, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced talks with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on the completion of the project. In the United States, the pipeline is still called a problem. Washington continues to insist that the project should be stopped.
