In the United States, specialists at Southwestern University learned that a giant asteroid existed in the solar system. He was the size of Ceres.
According to Nature Astronomy, traces of the object were discovered while studying a meteorite that fell to Earth more than 10 years ago. In 2008, it exploded over Sudan. Then a meteor shower rained down on the ground. At the same time, the AhS mass was nine tons. Its diameter was equal to four meters.
According to the results of infrared microscopy, the meteorite contained materials that indicated the conditions for the formation of the parent object. Thus, the object that fell to the Earth formed about 4.6 billion years ago. The parent object was a large celestial body. It ranged from 643 to almost 2 thousand kilometers in diameter.
