The United States continues to monitor progress towards the completion of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, viewing sanctions only as “an important tool.” This was stated by the head of the press service of the State Department Ned Price.

He explained that Washington “continues to monitor activities to complete the construction or certification of the pipeline.” If such activity “takes place,” Price said, then the US “will decide whether the sanctions are applicable or not.”

“Sanctions are just one of many important tools. We will work closely with our allies and partners to strengthen Europe’s energy security and take precautions against this predatory behavior, ”the spokesman added.

Price also noted that the United States does not rule out new measures against Russia for “human rights violations.”
