The Russian government will consider on Thursday a bill increasing liability for repeated drunk driving. This was reported on April 1 by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“The draft law in a new version sets out Article 264.1 (” Violation of traffic rules by a person subject to administrative punishment “) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, in part two of which heightened penalties for this act are fixed,” TASS quotes this message.
It is noted that if at present the maximum punishment in the form of two years of imprisonment is provided for repeated drunk driving, the bill proposes to increase it to three years.
In March, the State Assembly – kurultai of the Republic of Bashkortostan submitted to the State Duma a bill on the confiscation of a car from drunk drivers, who caused an accident with serious consequences.
The authors of the bill propose to amend the Criminal Code (Criminal Code) of the Russian Federation, establishing “mandatory confiscation of a car or other power-driven vehicle owned by a convicted person or other legal owner for committing crimes with the use of this vehicle.” In particular, we are talking about road accidents that occurred due to the fault of drunk drivers, as a result of which serious harm was inflicted on the victim’s health or which resulted in the death of one or more people.
