President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov said that St. Petersburg has long been ready to host seven matches of Euro 2020.

“St. Petersburg is ready to host seven matches as well, the readiness did not come today, but quite a long time ago. There was information about the current status, there is no doubt that the city and the organizing committee will cope with the holding of EURO 2020, and the matches will be held at a high organizational level, “he said at a press conference following the meeting of the RFU Executive Committee.

In the spring of 2020, UEFA announced the postponement of the European Championship to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organizers did not change the official name of the tournament – “Euro 2020”. The European Championship will be held from June 11 to July 11, 2021.

Nine cities confirmed the reception of tournament matches with spectators, including St. Petersburg, Baku, Rome, Bucharest, Budapest, London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Glasgow.

On April 23, it became known that the stadiums of St. Petersburg will be fully ready for training teams for Euro 2020 by June after the news that the UEFA Executive Committee has postponed three group matches.
