The memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide was honored in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

A funeral ceremony dedicated to the tragic events of the early twentieth century was held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Words of support were voiced to the Armenian diaspora in Sakhalin. Details were told in the mayor’s office of the island capital.

“There are many Armenians living in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. And our human duty is to share with them the pain that has not subsided even decades after the tragic events, ”Sergei Nadsadin addressed those present.

In addition, pupils of the Armenian Sunday School performed in front of the audience, and the newly appointed Bishop Nikanor, Chairman of the “Hayk Armenia-Community” Armine Yeghian, and Chairman of the “Sakhalin Region Peoples’ Assembly” Maya Kirillova delivered speeches.

April 24 – Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. In 1915, on this day, hundreds of intellectuals were arrested and killed, and then 1.5 million people were killed and evicted outside the state.
