The mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, has a negative attitude to the demand of the authorized representative for the protection of the state language of Ukraine, Taras Kremin, to abandon the anthem of the city written in Russian, the publication “Strana.ua” reports.

“The Odessa City Council is unlikely to vote to change the anthem of Odessa. We like our anthem, Odessa is satisfied with everything. Personally, I am not going to take the initiative to replace or change the existing anthem of Odessa. But this will be determined by the city council, if such a question is raised,” he said.

According to him, the implementation of the changes will require public hearings, as well as the support of two-thirds of the deputy corps.

“In general, when I got acquainted with the report of the language ombudsman, I remembered Babel’s quote:” My brain, along with my hair, stood on end when I heard this news, “the mayor added.

Trukhanov confirmed that he had met with Silicon, but gave him advice “to treat Odessa and the nationalities living on its territory with respect.”
