The Kremlin, the Government House and more than 2 thousand capital buildings and structures on March 27 turned off external lighting for 60 minutes as part of the global environmental campaign “Earth Hour”.

The State Historical Museum, GUM and TSUM, Zaryadye Park, Manezh, Bolshoi Theater, Cathedral of Christ the Savior and Luzhniki Stadium, buildings of the Federation Council, State Duma and Moscow Government, Ostankinskaya Tower, VDNKh pavilions, residential houses on Tverskaya Street, Stalinist skyscrapers, parks, hotels and other buildings and structures. On the facades of buildings on Novy Arbat, videos on the topic of ecology were broadcast.

“For Moscow, this action is being held for the 13th time. I remember that in 2010, when we held it, the artistic lighting was turned off only on 60 buildings in Moscow. Today I hope that more than 2 thousand buildings will take part in the action. Well, millions of Muscovites traditionally take part, turning off the light in their homes, and think about the problems of a planetary scale, “- TASS quotes the head of the department of nature management and environmental protection of the capital, Anton Kulbachevsky.

Director of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Russia Dmitry Gorshkov pointed out that the action in 2021 is dedicated to the openness of information about the state of the environment.

“The events of 2020 showed us what can happen if information is provided inaccurate or not provided at all. We remember a number of accidents that occurred, and the damage from them could be significantly less for both man and nature, ”he recalled.

By the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Moscow Kremlin has been participating in the Earth Hour campaign since 2013, and on March 25 it became known that VDNKh will support the Earth Hour campaign for the 12th time in a row.

In 2020, the action took place despite the coronavirus pandemic. Last year, Gorky Park, Sokolniki, Victory Park, Tsaritsyno and others joined the Earth Hour.
