An attacker who snatches a handbag from a Smolyanka in the entrance can get up to four years in prison. On July 29, it became known that a 47-year-old woman’s statement about a robbery was received by the duty unit of the police department No. 1 in the city of Smolensk.
The victim explained to the police that in the morning at the entrance of her house she met an unfamiliar man who snatched a handbag from her hands and disappeared in an unknown direction. According to the applicant, the bag contained cash in the amount of about 7 thousand rubles.
The detectives interviewed residents of nearby houses in order to establish possible witnesses and eyewitnesses to the incident, and also worked out a circle of people who had previously come into the field of view of the police. The criminal investigation officers identified the suspect’s identity and whereabouts and took him to the police station for further investigation. The detainee was an unemployed 35-year-old local resident, who explained that he had attacked a woman for the purpose of profit. He managed to spend the stolen money. The applicant’s bag and bank card were seized by the police.
At present, the investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Smolensk have opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Robbery”. The sanction of this part of the article provides for the maximum punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to four years.
