The head of Sochi, Aleksey Kopaigorodsky, checked the work of the Adler checkpoint and came to the conclusion that it was necessary to eliminate huge traffic jams on the border with Abkhazia, Interfax-Yug reports. Starting from August 1, after the opening of the Russian-Abkhaz border, there is an increase in traffic on the roads every day.
– It is necessary to take measures to exclude the formation of queues and traffic jams on the access roads to the checkpoint “Adler”, – the mayor of the city expressed his position.
Now the Russian-Abkhaz border is crossed every day by 20 thousand people, said Marina Zhupanova, chief inspector of the Sochi customs. As soon as people learned about the possibility of opening the border, cars lined up for passage at night. Eyewitnesses in social networks actively shared photo and video materials, talking about huge traffic jams and complaining about the complication of the path by a large stream of cars.
According to Zhupanova’s information, the Sochi customs officers are working in an enhanced mode. In total, 23 lanes of the customs post are involved, and one more reserve lane has been opened to increase the throughput.
Meanwhile, “Caucasian Knot” reports that the deputy head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Abkhazia, Alkhas Konjaria, expressed his concern about the situation due to the active spread of coronavirus infection. In his opinion, hospitals are not ready for a sharp increase in the number of covid patients from Russia. If Russian tourists become infected, they will be sent for treatment to Dagomys.
Kopaigorodsky, in turn, recalled that tourists need to observe the mask regime and social distance. In his opinion, this should be regularly reported when crossing the border in order to avoid a sharp increase in the incidence.
