In addition to a diplomatic response, economic sanctions should be introduced against the Czech Republic. This was announced on April 18 by the senator from the Crimean region, a member of the international committee of the Federation Council Sergei Tsekov.

“I think the Czech Republic should be rebuffed in the form of very serious sanctions for its economy and social sphere. What the response measures will be, will be determined by the government, “RIA Novosti quotes Tsekov.

According to him, the answer must be tough.

On the eve of the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov noted that there are no grounds for expelling diplomats from the Czech Republic. In his opinion, the expulsion of diplomats in the EU countries resembles a “race for loyalty to Washington.”

On April 17, it became known that the Czech Republic was expelling 18 Russian diplomats. The country’s authorities explained their decision by the fact that they were allegedly identified as employees of the Russian special services. However, no evidence of this was presented.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Prague is well aware of what will follow such tricks.

The situation with Russian diplomats was preceded by the imposition of US restrictions on Russia. US President Joe Biden signed a decree on April 15 introducing new anti-Russian sanctions.

In addition, it became known about the expulsion of 10 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington.

On April 16, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced countermeasures.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced Russia’s plans to stop the work of some US funds, expel 10 American diplomats from the country and announce the inclusion of a number of officials from the leading structures of the Washington administration on the sanctions list.
