Pay for epidemiologists could grow by a third within five years, Pavel Sigal, first vice president of Opora Rossii, told Izvestia on Thursday, November 12.
Earlier that day, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, announced that the number of hours in epidemiology should be increased in medical universities, because the task of staffing is very important, RIA Novosti reports.
According to Pavel Sigal, if the state creates more target places and provides future specialists with good training and decent salaries, students will make a choice in favor of the profession of an epidemiologist.
“Polls showed that most of the students in the spring managed to miss school and their comrades, so there is no need to explain to them the importance of the profession of an epidemiologist who will protect the country from such a danger,” said the first vice president of Opora Rossii.
To popularize, you also need to connect the media, create a positive image of epidemiologists in them and talk about their work, the specialist believes.
In the future, additional institutes can be created in the country that will carry out research in the field of virology with competitive salaries, Pavel Sigal concluded.
Earlier that day, Alexander Gorelov, deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that Russia was going through a phase of growth in the incidence of coronavirus, about 1.3% of the population had already suffered the infection.
At the same time, the director of the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Pasteur, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Areg Totolyan noted that the highest level of collective immunity to coronavirus infection is noted in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where more than 65% of the population have immunity, and in the Astrakhan Region – 51.6 %.
