Boarding passes are key travel documents and it is strongly discouraged to post pictures of them on social media, Express writes on September 2.

It is noted that the ticket contains much more personal information than passengers can imagine, and therefore getting this data into the hands of scammers can cause a number of troubles.

Lisa Forte, a certified trainer at the UK Government Communications Center, said that the barcode on the boarding pass can be used to disclose personal information.

So, it encrypts the passenger’s full name and date of birth, passport number and data, information about car rental or hotel reservations made through the airline, phone number, email address and even the last four digits of the payment card used and information about its owner.

The expert warned that a cyber fraudster could use the obtained data to deceive. For example, send a phishing email pretending to be an airline in order to convince the recipient to click on a link that is harmful to him.

On August 31, it became known that IT companies in the last month of the summer recorded a sharp increase in the appearance of phishing fraudulent ticket sites. Group-IB told Izvestia that in August their number has almost tripled.
