Interior designer and professional space organizer Anastasia Alborova, in an interview with aif.ru on Tuesday, April 27, talked about mistakes in storing things and how to make your house cleaner.
According to her, one of the mistakes is storing things in the house, the use of which is not planned. They take up space, make cleaning more difficult and create a cluttered feel. In this regard, the designer advised first of all to get rid of unnecessary things and repeat the “decluttering” from time to time.
The specialist also advised to sort items into categories and not to store them mixed. This will make it easier to find what you are looking for and will not create clutter.
The designer named the wrong organized space as another mistake. According to her, it is not worth keeping things far from where they are used. For example, if a person is used to reading in the bedroom, then you should not put a bookcase in the hall. The same goes for a hair dryer, towels, children’s toys.
“The first three mistakes apply to all rooms in the house, so start cleaning each of them by eliminating them: decluttering, categorizing things and determining the ideal place for each of them,” the designer emphasized.
In the kitchen, the specialist advised not to litter horizontal surfaces and try to free them as much as possible, leaving only those things that are used regularly on them. The designer also attributed fridge magnets, bright potholders and textiles to visual noise.
In the bedroom, the expert advised to allocate in the closet a special shelf for clothes, which they had already put on, so as not to leave them in a conspicuous place and not to put them together with clean things.
The designer also urged not to neglect containers with dividers in the bathroom for storing decorative and care cosmetics, styling, hair accessories, as well as for storing things of different family members. If you divide all this into categories once, then you can save a lot of time searching for what you need, as well as money for buying duplicate items.
Alborova also urged not to keep all children’s toys in one basket.
“This, of course, is convenient, but only until the child needs something specific and he turns this entire container or basket upside down,” the specialist noted.
She added that the side effect of this storage is also the breakage of toys and damage to each other. The designer also urged to involve children in cleaning, and not to clean up after them.
Another mistake of the lack of order, the specialist called improper storage of little things like keys, shoe spoons, wallets. For such items, you can have a closed container, and hang a stylish key holder for the keys. Also, do not keep seasonal items in close access all year round. The designer advised not to forget to clean and put away such things for distant storage when the season changes. You can use cardboard boxes and vacuum bags for this.
