Those accused of preparing a military coup in Belarus and an attempt on the life of the president of the republic, Alexander Lukashenko, have admitted their guilt. The corresponding footage was shown on Sunday, April 25, by the Belarusian state TV channel ONT.

The testimony was given by the leader of the opposition party BPF Grigory Kastusev, lawyer Yury Zenkovich and political scientist Alyaksandr Feduta.

“I plead guilty to participation in the conspiracy,” Gazeta.Ru quotes Feduta.

On April 17 Lukashenka announced the arrest of a group of people who were preparing an attempt on the life of him and his children. According to the president, the US special services are involved in this.

According to the KGB of the republic, in addition to the physical elimination of Lukashenka, the conspirators wanted to organize an armed rebellion in order to seize power. Charges were brought against four defendants. Two were detained by FSB officers in Moscow – we are talking about Zenkovich, who has citizenship of the United States and Belarus, and political scientist Alexander Fedut.

According to Lukashenko, the conspirators considered several scenarios of a coup, including his murder on May 9, as well as an attack on the motorcade and residence. At the same time, $ 10 million was allocated for the destruction of the residence, together with Lukashenko himself, and another $ 1 million for the sniper. In addition, the detainees also hoped to block Minsk with the help of the army.

Against the background of these events, the Belarusian leader announced that he would sign a decree transferring power to the Security Council in an emergency. According to him, the document will determine the structure of power in emergency situations, for example, in the case of the assassination of the head of state.
