On September 6, in the Orthodox tradition, it is customary to remember the martyr Eutychios, who was a disciple of John the Theologian himself.

Eutykhiy was born at the end of the 1st century in the Palestinian Sebastia. This hieromartyr was not numbered among the 70 apostles, but for his labors he was nevertheless called an apostle.

In addition, on the sixth September day, there is a celebration in honor of the Peter’s Icon of the Mother of God. The icon was painted by Saint Peter, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Russia, during that period of his life when he was listed as hegumen of the Rat Monastery in Volyn.

In Russia, the day of Eutykhios was considered unlucky, on this day people behaved wary. Gradually it dawns later, and the days are getting shorter. There is a legend that today the dawn will warn and call out to everyone who walks into the forest alone. In Russia, they tried not to go to Eutychia in the forest at all, fearing to get lost and disappear.

It is believed that all evil spirits dare to Eutychius. And, using the services of their “subordinates” – the souls of people who died not by their own death – evil entities can destroy a person, luring him into the forest or into big water.

It is strictly forbidden on Eutychia to go far from home, go on a long journey or journey.

Don’t gossip, condemn, or be jealous. On Eutykhiy, nicknamed the Quiet by the people, you cannot bother with dough, bake or fry pies, pancakes, pancakes.
