The Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg ruled to reimburse 1 million rubles to the singer Alexander Novikov as damage for the illegal prosecution of the artist. This was announced on Monday, August 10, at the court’s press service.

“Satisfied, to collect 1 million rubles from the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation in favor of Novikov,” the authorities told TASS. The decision has not entered into legal force and can be appealed against within the period established by law.

The plaintiff asked to recover from the Ministry of Finance 1 million rubles as expenses for the provision of legal assistance.

Novikov was accused of fraud (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) at the end of 2016. As the investigation believed, he could have been involved in the theft of money from shareholders of the Bukhta Queens residential complex, which his company Dombury was building in Yekaterinburg.

The artist was charged in 2017. According to the investigation, with the participation of the former Deputy Minister of Economy of the Sverdlovsk Region Mikhail Shilimanov, the money of 60 shareholders was partially withdrawn to the accounts of third-party firms and cashed. More than 50 million rubles have become the prey of scammers.

In the summer of 2019, the IC department in the Sverdlovsk region, due to the lack of corpus delicti, terminated the criminal case.
