Employees of the Smolenskoye Poozerie National Park share information that bears have woken up in the Smolensk region.

In our area, clubfoots usually begin to leave their den at the beginning of the first month of spring. But this year the hibernation has lasted longer than usual due to the weather. In the national park, for example, there is still a lot of snow to this day.

So far, the bears are not aggressive and not very active. The first 2 weeks after waking up from winter sleep, they walk around the den, feed on plant roots, dust from stumps and buds. If the weather turns bad, the bears can again lie down in their shelters for several days. But females with cubs leave their dens later, only when the heat is firmly established.
