When a grocery fraudulent sales clerk in Kroger, Georgia, went on vacation for two weeks, Tre Brown, 19, saw it as an opportunity to get rich quickly.
In those two weeks, Brown managed to steal $ 980,000 from the store by filing fake refunds for non-existent purchases and placing the illegal “income” on several credit cards he opened. More than 40 claims for refunds were for purchases ranging from $ 75 to $ 87,000. The teenager used the stolen money to buy clothes, shoes, firearms and two cars.
When an unusually large flow of returns attracted the attention of the network administration, it turned to law enforcement agencies. Brown was arrested on charges of theft and released on bail pending trial. During the arrest, a large amount of money was found and confiscated by police, police said. And one of the cars – a Chevrolet Camaro – he managed to completely break in an accident even before his arrest.
