On the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, there was a firefight between the security forces, four people were wounded. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have accused each other of fomenting the conflict.

“The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border has gotten out of control. At the moment, the shootout continues, the security forces are shooting,” said the deputy head of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, Marufkhan Tulaev.

He stressed that the Tajik side was the first to open fire.

“There are new victims, ambulance doctors on the spot provide them with first aid and send them to the nearest hospitals,” Tulaev said.

At the same time, the press center of the border troops of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Tajikistan said that the Kyrgyz were the first to open fire. According to the press center, the incident took place on April 29 at the site of the Golovnaya water distribution point in the upper reaches of the Isfara River near the city of Isfara.

Tajikistan accused Kyrgyzstan of trying to seize the Tajik water distribution point “Golovnoy”, which since 1968 has been used for irrigation and water supply of the border regions of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Residents of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, meanwhile, circulated a video from the scene, in which bursts of shots are heard. Heavy military equipment is being pulled to the place of the conflict.
