The Chinese nation has always been known for its strong traditions, traditional medicine and martial arts. Taichi or Taijiquan, already popular in their homeland, is now gaining fame outside of China!
Taijiquan, which literally translates as “the fist of the Great Boundary”, is one of the subtypes of the martial art of wushu, and, akin to any martial art, carries a deep philosophy. During the period of hysteria that has swept the whole world due to the pandemic, everyone is severely lacking balance and peace of mind. Chinese masters argue that tai chi health exercises will help to concentrate on one’s own body, throwing unnecessary worries away.
Calm, full of wisdom, art concentrates on the feeling of oneself, one’s body in the life flow of the environment. This is a method of active meditation actively practiced in China. Young and old people gather in small groups in parks, in nature, all as one, repeating the teacher’s movements. The increased interest of the Western public in such a leisurely knowledge of nature and one’s body during the period of global isolation is understandable.
