On September 15, the Spanish authorities passed a law that prohibits the justification and glorification of Francoism. Now, all organizations bearing the names of representatives of the Franco era will be banned in the country, DW reports.
As specified, the Law of Democratic Memory prohibits “any attempt to justify or praise the Francoist dictatorship of 1936-1975 and its leaders.”
The new law will close the Francisco Franco National Trust, which has existed since 1976. Also prohibited are public speeches of supporters of the dictatorship and the demonstration of the symbols of that era.
According to the media, some provisions of the new law caused an ambiguous reaction in society, they will be challenged in the Constitutional Court of the country.
