Soviet football player, European football champion in 1960 as part of the USSR national team Viktor Ponedelnik will be buried in his hometown of Rostov-on-Don. On Sunday, December 6, the press service of the city administration told TASS about it.

The death of a football player was reported by his daughter Anastasia Monday the day before, on December 5, she did not provide details. The athlete died at the age of 83.
Memory of Monday will be honored with a minute of silence at the 17th round matches of the Tinkoff Russian Premier League (RPL) on December 6 and 7.
Monday, since 1959, he played at the local sports club of the military district (SKVO) – the current SKA from Rostov-on-Don. For special achievements he was invited to the national team, and in 1960 he made his debut for the USSR national team in a friendly game against Poland (7: 1) and scored three goals.
The footballer was included in the application of the USSR national team for the first European Championship in France in 1960, where he scored a goal in the final with Yugoslavia in the second half of the game in the 113th minute, snatching the victory with a score of 2: 1.
After the death of Anatoly Krutikov in November 2019, Viktor Ponedelnik remained the last living European football champion in 1960.
