Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the restrictive measures introduced in the capital due to the coronavirus pandemic could be in effect for several more months. The mayor announced this on Wednesday, August 5, on the air of the Russia-1 TV channel.
“We shouldn’t forget about protective measures. And we remind you that this must be done. <...> We are not canceling them and we believe that they are necessary in the coming weeks, maybe months, ”he said.
Since July 13, Moscow has again eased the anti-coronavirus restrictions. The authorities canceled the ubiquitous mask regime. Thus, city dwellers no longer need to wear personal protective equipment on the street. However, masks and gloves are required when using public transport, visiting public places and shopping.
At the end of July, it was reported that raids began at all stations of the Moscow Metro to check whether passengers had personal protective equipment. On August 4, Oleg Ivanov, deputy head of the Transportation Organizer, said that since the beginning of the mask and glove regime in the capital, more than 42 thousand passengers of public transport have received fines for lack of personal protective equipment, TASS reports.
As of August 5, a total of 866 627 cases of coronavirus were recorded in Russia, of which 14 490 were fatal. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 669,026 people have recovered in the country. In Moscow, 244 784 cases of COVID-19 were detected.
