In the Olshansk quarries, an experienced diver from Smolensk plunged into the ice water several times. On December 10, he did this deliberately: as part of the exercise, the Smolensk rescuers practiced the skills of helping those who fell through the ice.
According to the legend of the exercises, the “angler” went out onto a recently frozen reservoir, the ice cracked, and the man found himself in a hole. The rescue operation was attended by employees of the GIMS Center of the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Smolensk Region, employees of the 2nd specialized fire and rescue unit of Smolensk, specialists of the rescue teams of the regional Fire and Rescue Center.
The standard rescue methods were worked out (life board, “Aleksandrov’s end”), as well as improvised means: a drill, a jacket, a tree branch. A conditional victim was handed over to a physician during the exercise. The rescuers completed the assigned tasks successfully.
