The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) opened a criminal case against the Ukrainian video blogger Anatoly Shariy. This was announced on Saturday, November 7, by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Aleksey Goncharenko, at whose request an investigation was launched.
“The SBU opened a criminal case against Shariy for encroaching on the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Goncharenko also posted a photocopy of the SBU response, which notes that the Investigative Committee is currently conducting a pre-trial investigation on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to five years.
Anatoly Shariy is known for criticizing Kiev’s actions against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.
At the end of July, the video blogger spoke about another attack on a supporter of his political party. On July 15, journalist Olga Shariy reported that unknown assailants attacked a member of Shariy’s party in Kiev, beat him and sprayed him with gas.
On June 17, near the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a rally of supporters of the party of video blogger Anatoly Shariy took place, who demanded that the head of state either protect the rights of citizens and stop beating public activists and journalists, or resign.
As a result, 15 protesters were detained. All the detainees were taken to the Pechersk District Police Department, and a criminal case was opened against one of them for resisting the guard of order – a man sprayed a gas canister towards the police
