Ivan Safronov, an adviser to the head of Roscosmos, accused of treason, asked human rights defenders to transfer halal sausage to him in the pre-trial detention center for his cellmate, who is accused of terrorism. This was announced to reporters on Monday, August 10, by Marina Litvinovich, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission (POC) of Moscow, who visited Safronov in the isolation ward.
“We visited Ivan, he is still sitting with a neighbor accused of terrorism, who is very aggressive. However, they found a common language, Vanya even asked to give him not only ordinary, but also halal sausage to share with a cellmate, ”Litvinovich quoted TASS as saying.
According to her, Safronov has trouble sleeping due to the fact that the lights are not turned off in the Lefortovo SIZO at night, so he was given a sleep mask. “This is such a feature of this isolation ward,” said the human rights activist.
Litvinovich added that Safronov received over 100 letters and thanks everyone for their support. “He tries to hold on, goes in for sports, and jogs during walks,” said the POC member.
Safronov was detained on July 7 in Moscow. The investigation believes that he was recruited by the Czech special services since 2012, and in 2017 he allegedly received an assignment and gave this country data on military cooperation between Russia and the Middle East.
The Russian Federal Security Service opened a criminal case under Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“High treason”). Safronov pleaded not guilty and refused to deal with the investigation. Until September 6, he will remain under arrest in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center.
Prior to his appointment as an advisor to the head of Roscosmos in May this year, Safronov worked as a journalist for Kommersant and Vedomosti.
