Moscow’s chief oncologist Igor Khatkov became an honorary member of the American Association of Surgeons.
According to a representative of the specialist, the corresponding decision was made back in June 2020. According to him, the Association Council expressed unanimous support for this decision.
“Today, April 15, it was officially approved at the general meeting of the oldest and most prestigious surgical organization in the world,” he explained.
Khatkov was the first in Russia to perform laparoscopic pancreatoduodenal resection; by now he has extensive experience in such operations. Such surgical interventions are considered one of the most difficult to perform among laparoscopic operations. Also, more than 290 scientific works and seven monographs have been published under his authorship.
He has received many awards and prizes, including the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, III degree, the Government Prize in Science and Technology, and awards from international associations.
We add that the American Association of Surgeons is the oldest and most prestigious in the world. It was founded in 1880.
