The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, called the deployment of low-yield nuclear warheads by Washington as a factor destabilizing the global nuclear deterrent.

This is how the diploma commented on the statements of the Deputy Assistant to the US Department of Defense, Robert Sufer, who accused Russia of starting a “non-strategic arms” race. According to the Russian ambassador, the accusations by the Pentagon are being used to justify the American policy of lowering the “threshold” for the use of nuclear weapons.

Last year, the United States deployed W76-2 low-yield warheads on Trident II SLBMs. Antonov noted that strategic delivery vehicles equipped with such equipment become “battlefield weapons.”

“It is these practical steps – and not the intentions attributed to Russia – that have a significant destabilizing effect on nuclear deterrence,” the Russian ambassador explained.
