Russian investigators are ready to assist their Belarusian colleagues in investigating the genocide on the territory of the republic during the Great Patriotic War, said Svetlana Petrenko, an official representative of the RF IC.
On April 9, Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrei Shved said that the country’s authorities plan to appeal to the Russian Federation and Germany in the framework of a criminal case on the fact of the genocide of the Belarusian population.
“If the Russian IC receives a request from Belarusian colleagues with a request to assist in the investigation of a criminal case on the genocide of the population of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, the Russian department will certainly provide the necessary methodological and practical assistance,” RIA Novosti quotes Petrenko 16 April.
The representative of the ICR noted that the Russian investigators have the latest forensic techniques at their disposal.
Petrenko recalled that the interaction of the investigative committees of Russia and Belarus is constantly being strengthened to combat crime. It is based on a number of international criminal justice instruments, she added.
In particular, in 2013, the heads of departments signed an agreement and a program on cooperation in the field of forensic support of the preliminary investigation.
On March 18, it was reported that Minsk intends to initiate a criminal case on the fact of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. The Prosecutor General’s Office, together with parliament, developed a bill that counteracts the glorification of Nazism.
