On May 2, Orthodox residents of the Republic of Kalmykia celebrate the Bright Resurrection of Christ, namely the Easter of Christ. Easter is the oldest and most important holiday of the liturgical year.
It was on this day that an angel descended from heaven, who brought the good news that Jesus, who was crucified on the cross, was resurrected and that there is no need to look for him among the dead, since he dwells among the living.
Easter service starts at midnight Saturday to Sunday; it is all filled with spiritual joy and exultation. All of it is a solemn hymn to the Bright Resurrection of Christ, the reconciliation of God and man, the victory of life over death.
On this day, all Orthodox residents of Russia paint eggs and give each other cakes, and also shout: “Christ is Risen!” In response, they are told: “Truly He is Risen!”
Happy Holidays, Orthodox Kalmyks!
