Rector of the Chemical-Technological University. DI. Mendeleev (RCTU) Alexander Mazhuga on the air of the radio “Moscow speaking” proposed to increase the amount of scholarships for students of Russian universities. Mazhuga believes that the current level of payments to those who are preparing to defend a thesis does not allow them to focus on research work.

“The scholarships that are now paid to graduate students are negligible, as well as to students. A post-graduate student should be engaged in science day and night, he should be burning with it, be in the laboratory, ”the rector of the Russian Chemical Technology University says. Mazhuga states that now graduate students are forced to work, and it’s good if the university provides such an opportunity. If the university does not give such an opportunity, then the graduate student finds work on the side. As a result, he finally goes to a company that pays money, refusing to study.

Mazhuga also named the priorities for the successful development of domestic science. This is an increase in the status of a scientist in the country and a solution to the issue of providing young specialists with housing.

As a reminder, on April 20, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko put forward an initiative to replace scholarships for 30% of the most talented postgraduate students in Russia with three-year research grants in the amount of about 700 thousand rubles a year.
