Quarantine in Ukraine extended until June 30

The Ukrainian government is extending the emergency regime and quarantine measures until June 30. This was announced at a briefing on April 21 by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal.

“The government is extending the emergency regime until June 30, and continues to quarantine,” Shmygal said.

According to him, the emergency situation primarily concerns public authorities and their preparedness to counter the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

He also added that Ukrainians need to continue to comply with all anti-coronavirus measures and be careful.

“We must show especially such circumspection and conscientiousness during the May holidays and Easter. These days we urge people to stay at home, ”the Prime Minister said.

He recalled that large-scale gatherings of people during major holidays can lead to a new wave of morbidity.

On March 31, a record mortality was recorded in Ukraine – 407 patients died from complications of the coronavirus. On March 27, 13 out of 25 regions of Ukraine introduced the maximum level of epidemic danger – “red”. A number of strict restrictions apply to residents of the quarantine zone. Closed for visiting public catering and culture establishments, gyms, swimming pools, non-food markets. Mass, sports and other such events are prohibited.

The previous maximum death rate from coronavirus in Ukraine was recorded on March 25. Then, 16 669 cases of COVID-19 were detected in the country per day, 362 patients died.

On March 24, the Verkhovna Rada said that the situation with the coronavirus in Ukraine is close to critical, and there are several weeks left before the peak of the third wave of COVID-19.

Vaccination in Ukraine began at the end of February with the Indian-made Covishield drug developed by AstraZeneca in cooperation with the University of Oxford. On March 25, the first batch of CoronaVac vaccine from the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech in the amount of 215 thousand doses arrived in Ukraine. Ukraine refused to use Russian vaccines against COVID-19.
