Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the management of human remains and military graves. The document was published on April 30 on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The law gives the regional authorities the authority to bury and reburial the unburied remains of those who died during the Great Patriotic War and to compile lists of names of the victims buried in military graves in the region.
Also, the regions will have to approve the list of territories where hostilities took place and the unburied remains of soldiers may be located. The law says that if remains or old graves of dead soldiers are found on a plot of land, their burial must take place within three months – at this time all work is suspended, during which the remains may be damaged.
Persons who have found remains, fragments of gravestones and obelisks must report this to the police or the appropriate local government within three working days.
Earlier, on April 14, it was reported that in 2021, restoration work will be carried out at 56 military graves in the Rostov region. According to the regional government, 96.6 million rubles will be allocated for repairs.
