Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on the decision of the Verkhovna Rada to rename the village of Novgorodskoye in the Bakhmutsky district of the Donetsk region to New York.

According to the parliamentarian, the village, which so far contains only two-storey buildings and an old factory, will develop under the slogan: “Give me skyscrapers!” and “Give Trump Tower!”

“And, of course, we must not forget the Statue of Liberty from Common Sense. In general, another life begins, as described by Ilf and Petrov: New Vasyuki in Ukrainian performance. And this, apparently, is only the beginning. In general, another life begins, ”he wrote in Telegram on Friday, February 5.

Pushkov also added that he is waiting for the appearance of local San Francisco, Los Angeles, as well as Chicago and Cincinnati.

The intention of the Ukrainian authorities to rename the village became known on February 3.

According to Andrey Klochko, a deputy from the Servant of the People party, the Donetsk Regional Civil-Military Administration came up with this initiative. It was noted that New York is the historical name of the village until 1951.

The village is located on the territory controlled by Kiev near the border with the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.
